Maureen FitzSimons's achievements as a young performer in America (which we refer to as Maureen O'Hara today) would certainly put her in the category of child prodigies. It was an innate characteristic for a girl from Irish origin, and who was surrounded in the beginning by gifted family members as well as parents. Maureen was welcomed into the sanctity of family on August 17, 1920 in Ranelagh (a suburb in Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita Lea. FitzSimons made a name for herself with her contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based business and owned a share of "The Shamrock Rovers," a renowned Irish soccer team. Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen loved playing rough athletic games as a child and excelled in sports. Furthermore her talent, she also had a knack acting. This was apparent when she won each Feis in drama and theatre that Ireland had to provide. As she reached the age of 14 the Abbey Theater accepted her and permitted her to pursue her passion for classical theatre as well as singing opera.
